Spiritual Misfits Toowoomba Hub

what is a spiritual misfit?…

Spiritual Misfits is for people who feel like they are on the fringes of Christian Faith.

We aim to provide a safe space for people who may have been hurt by their experiences of church. This means we meet outside of church, usually in a park, and we talk about things that stir up questions and thoughts that maybe people are afraid to talk about in other settings. We come from different denominations as well as those with no denominational affiliation or no faith affiliation.

When we get together, we usually prepare by listening to a podcast or watching a video.

Our inspiration comes from the Spiritual Misfits site and podcast. Feel free to explore more here.

We have permission from Spiritual Misfits to call ourselves Spiritual Misfits Toowoomba hub.

The Topic of Our Next Gathering is…

The next Spiritual Misfits Toowoomba Hub will be on Thursday 19 June 2025 at 7 pm.

Venue: St James’ Anglican Church, 145 Mort Street, Toowoomba (corner of Russell Street).

This month we’ll be joining with the regular Movies That Matter gathering presented jointly by St James’ and Amnesty International. The film is “ Dear Mama.”

When Naissa tells his mother Daniela that he identifies as a man she struggles to understand. Through candid personal letters exchanged over three years, Dear Mamma follows Naissa as he stands firmly for his independence and identity, and Daniela as she wrestles with her fear of losing her beloved child. While Naissa embarks on a professional dance career and proudly embodies his gender, his mother also makes a journey towards understanding and accepting her son’s choices.

The film will be followed by a discussion with a guest speaker who is the parent of a transgender child.
